Just Asking… Who Washes the Hand Gel Dispensers?
Posted by Dun Tzu on the April 20th, 2009

If everyone in hospitals is supposed to use hand gel sanitizer, well then, that means that everyone in the hospital is touching the tops of these things…everyone… Not only that, everyone when their hands are their dirtiest, most soiled, and most infectious. So who washes the top of these bad boys?

@me init – except that the hand gels are not very good at protecting against C. diff. There’s probably a Clostridium convention on top of those bad boys.

I’m with me innit….Dun Tzu, C. diff does not jump off and cling to you!! And in our health board you’re educated to know that you don’t rely on the gel when dealing with C.diff, you wash your hands.

@Jenni – “you don’t rely on the gel when dealing with C.diff, you wash your hands.” That’s the main point of this cartoon/comic thingy & my 1st comment.
No one in their right minds would wash the top of the hand gel dispensers, so point #2 of this cartoon/comic thingy is “anytime your hands have to touch anything, there’s potential transmission”… so, (a) use motion-sensed gel dispensers, (b) be mindful of the surfaces you touch (buttons, keyboards, door knobs, etc), & (c) proper hand-washing is still better.
Lastly, you don’t always know when you’re dealing with C.diff. You can spread it way before you even suspect it.
