Funny Medical Commercials: Men Who Can’t Pee

Posted by Dun Tzu on the June 29th, 2010

Nothing like a little prostate humor to brighten your day, huh? (Well, not little prostate… more like “some humor about enlarged prostates.”)

For the most part, GiggleMed.com has remained largely free of advertisements and commercials. But every once in a while, we come across a commercial that is funny and related to healthcare. This one was posted by Dr. Wade Grindle in our Medical Humor Community.

Well check out this Spanner commercial. (We have no relationship with this company and we have no personal experience the device… we just think their commercial is funny).

Anyway, check it out.

Also, check out Dr. Wade Grindle’s medical humor blog.

A Few Good Nurses (and Interns)

Posted by Dun Tzu on the April 29th, 2010

Without question, the most famous quote from A Few Good Men came from the dialogue between Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise in the court room. Well, here’s a similar conversation, but this time, in an ER:

ER nurse: You want answers?

Intern: I think I’m entitled to them.

ER nurse: You want answers?

Intern: I want the truth!

ER nurse: You want the truth?! You can’t handle the truth! Son, we work in an overcrowded ER that has patients in the halls. And those halls have to be cleared to make room for more sick people. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Mr. Brand New Intern? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for weekly hour requirements and you curse the Policy. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that the speed with which patients are admitted, while inconvenient for you, probably saves lives.

And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives…You don’t want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don’t talk about in the resident’s lounge, you want me in this ER. You need me in this ER.

We use words like rapid response, code, DNR/DNI, triage… we use these words as the backbone to a night spent defending something. You use ‘em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to an intern who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very security I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I’d rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a syringe and draw that stat blood yourself. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you’re entitled to!

Intern: Did you cancel the code blue?

ER nurse: (quietly) I did the job the patient needed me to do.

Intern: Did you cancel the code blue?

ER nurse: You’re damn right I did!!

Funny People – Doctor’s Accent

Posted by Dun Tzu on the April 12th, 2010

Bedside manner, physicians’ accents, and the delivery of bad news – a potential source for medical humor? Of course…

George (Adam Sandler) and Ira (Seth Rogen) make fun of a doctor’s accent during an appointment. I’ve included two parts, because the first one is a better intro and the second one is pretty funny.

I love the way this guy says, “Big Bird is not evil”.

I’ll be back.

EHR Use Skyrockets With Use of Healthcare Super Heroes?

Posted by Dun Tzu on the March 22nd, 2010

EHR Use Skyrockets With the Use of Memorable Heroes of Healthcare

You want real healthcare reform? How about making subjects like anatomy, physiology, hematology, and pharmacology fun and memorable?… like this EHR did with the first in a line of Healthcare Heroes.

Do you realize how easy it is to remember what Basophil Man does? I mean… all you have to do is remember his super powers and kablammo… you remember the physiology.

And it’s cake to remember the battles of Lymph Man and Atypical Lymph Man… Atypical Lymph Man is like the Bizarro of the Healthcare Industry.

And, how conscious would we all be of infection if hospital gowns included Band Man Under-roos for anyone with a Foley or a central line?

Medical News Humor? – Newly Discovered Earthquake Mechanism

Posted by Dun Tzu on the February 22nd, 2010

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water…

I thought this was a pretty good recovery on the part of the news program… just go with it… you make a blooper, laugh about it. (Obviously you wouldn’t if anyone were hurt, but there were no damages from this earthquake… fortunately).

Infectious Disease Jokes – A Virus Walks Into A Bar

Posted by Dun Tzu on the December 12th, 2009

Science humor and infectious disease jokes… for some of these you’ll just groan. For others, if you laugh at them, you are never permitted to refer to anyone else as a “geek” or a “nerd” again. And if you like this video, you’ll love GiggleMed’s new book, “Bugs on Scrubs” – a great holiday gift for geeks like you – especially if they work in healthcare.

Not nearly as corny as some of the jokes above… Bugs on Scrubs is the new medical humor book about a knock-down, drag-out, open-up-a-can argument between a nurse and a doctor… It’s a great gift idea and it’s only 10 bucks. Get it now. Just click on this book:

Admiral Ackbar Finally Weighs In On The Bristol Stool Chart

Posted by Dun Tzu on the May 23rd, 2009

In the midst of an emergency it is important to break things down for easy understanding. Instead of analyzing each morsel of minutiae… sometimes we just need to say it like it is. No pontificating… no lengthy sit-downs with medical journals… no procrasterbating about what to do or what it all means… Say it like it is and make a decision.

Healthcare bears many similarities to the Star Wars saga… and the proof is in the pudding (see Types 6 and 7 below).

GiggleMed.com finally caught up with Admiral Ackbar and asked him to give us his thoughts on the Bristol Stool Chart. And, well… He answered immediately… There was no constipation of thought.

Nor was there any diarrhea of words. He was succinct. He said only three.

Star Wars Parody of Admiral Ackbar Its a Crap

.

Oh… and here’s the original “It’s a Trap!” Scene (but I’m not so sure he’s not saying, “It’s a Crap!”… Listen for yourself):
