7 Habits of Highly Annoying Nurses

Posted by Dun Tzu on the December 11th, 2008

We’ve all heard of Stephen R. Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  But what about all of those people that we work with in health care?… you know… those people that are nowhere to be found in Mr. Covey’s book.  Just to make sure we’re all talking about the same people, here are the 7 Habits of Highly Annoying Nurses:

  • Just calling “to let you know”.
  • Writing “Doctor aware”.
  • Saying, “It’s not my patient”.
  • Referring to patients by their room numbers and not knowing their names.
  • Smoke breaks.
  • Waiting until the end of their shift to start their charting.
  • Writing that they “read back” an order, when they did no such thing.

I’ll save my chuckles for when the Doctor’s get their ribbing…. :)
Sad, but the list is true. I have met and worked with many of them. Grr. I hate admitting that.

You had me at “just to let you know;” my pager would testify to the trauma if it wasn’t out of commission. I ain’t commenting on the rest. :P heh

Another Annoying habit of nurses in one saying

“Be kind to the nurses we stop the doctors from accidently killing you!”

    Smile!

    Proud to be a nurse!

To all the good nurses out there thank you. To all you lazy nurses that are there for just a pay check, and you know who you are… the heck with you. Stop paging me with bull and learn your patient’s names. Act like at least you care!
