Intra-abdominal Ewok on CT

CT scan: Intra-abdominal ewok or panda?

CT scan: Intra-abdominal ewok or panda?

Is that a panda in your abdomen or are you just happy to see me?

Some people look and see it right away. Others have to stare at it for a while. Once you see it, it’s kinda cute… in a liver-on-your-head sort of way. This real CT reminds me of that ewok that had the bandage on his head in Return of the Jedi. Others think it looks like a panda.

With Medical Humor, Nothing is Sacral

Posted by Dun Tzu on the October 23rd, 2008

Is this sacrum smiling (or straining)?

Is this sacrum smiling (or straining)?

Is nothing sacral anymore?… A laughing sacrum?

This image is a real slice from a patient’s CT scan. We first saw this image in the middle of a pretty hectic day. It made all of the doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurses crack up and brought the tone of a tough day back to earth.

If you have digital imaging at your hospital, you’ll see these things for sure. The spine, the pelvis, and the kidneys are great for uncovering funny facial expressions.

Of course, patient care first… but if you have any funny images, send them our way. (No patient identifying info, no copyrighted material, and we can do with it what we please - See our Terms for details.)

Pharma Marketing Spoof - Phalcor

Check out this spoof of those ridiculous direct-to-consumer drug company ads. Some of the side effects they list are downright hilarious.

StumbleUpon is a social bookmarking tool that can be a lot of fun. You can install a “stumble” button into the menu of your internet browser. Whenever you click, you will be sent to a web site that either fits the categories you pre-selected as topics you are interested in, or you will be sent to a web site that your friends have flagged as interesting.

GiggleMed is on StumbleUpon. And as we go through sites that we find funny or weird, we flag them. (I give it a “thumbs up.”) You can choose to “stumble” through the sites GiggleMed.com has given a thumbs up or you can go to GiggleMed’s StumbleUpon page and see which sites they are.

Colonoscopies Have Never Been So Funny :)

Posted by Dun Tzu on the October 14th, 2008

No one (at least no one I know) looks forward to having a colonoscopy. But I’ll tell you what… this one is hilarious. Lou Rawls and Damon Wayans in a funny video classic. Combine a heavy, rough-around-the-edges nurse, a disco ball, and a colonoscope. Just the look on Damon Wayans’ face is priceless.

Patients already say some funny things during conscious sedation, what if Lou Rawls was putting you under like this? Imagine the things you’d say.

Possible Names for Medical Musical Groups - Part 1

Posted by Dun Tzu on the October 12th, 2008

What if some popular musicians went to medical school or nursing school? First of all, they would’ve made a lot less money and would’ve had a lot less debt starting out. But that’s beside the point. The real question is… how would a health care background have changed their stage names?

  • Public Enema
  • Grateful Full Codes
  • Pee Dribbly
  • Joan Urojet
  • Counting Colace
  • LL Stool J
  • Hemmie and the Colectomies
  • 50 Cent CoPay
  • Rage Against the Administrators
  • Nine Inch Needles

A tad cheesy, but we have plenty more coming out in Part 2. Got some of your own? Post a comment below (no patient identifiers, no copyrighted material, and we can do with it whatever we want). Or, just let us know your favorite. Post a comment now.

Anyone can start a Squidoo site (called a “lens”). It is free and you can even make money or have all proceeds go to charity.

We’ve begun several Squidoo lenses, the most recent one being our Chart Farts® Squidoo “lens” to add to all of the funny stuff GiggleMed.com already provides.

If you have a Squidoo lens already, then tag us as a friend (lensmaster name Dun_Tzu) and post your lens link in the comments below. Help GiggleMed make medicine fun again… Start a health care humor lens today.

Stool Chart Reads Like Breakfast Menu

Posted by Dun Tzu on the October 6th, 2008

This is a legitimate scale for stool quality

This is a legitimate scale for stool quality

I take no issue with describing stool quality for medical purposes. I take no issue with graphic representation of those qualities. And, I take no issue with creating a scale for easier communication between doctors, nurses, and other health care providers.

I do, however, take issue with the fact that it reads like a breakfast menu…

Funny Med School Graduation Speech

Posted by Dun Tzu on the October 4th, 2008

Check out this funny med school graduation speech… He touches on several disciplines and subspecialties, several personality types, and a bunch of doctor jokes. He also makes a serious comment that is right up GiggleMed’s alley - about combining empathy and (appropriate) humor when caring for patients.
